Solar System Shut Down and Reboot Procedure

Many people feel nervous about touching their solar equipment, but shutting down and rebooting the system is straightforward when you follow the right steps. Here’s how to do it safely:

Step 1: Switch off the solar inverter
The inverter is the box—usually mounted near your switchboard or on a wall—that converts solar power into usable electricity. Turn it off first by pressing the clearly marked switch.

Step 2: Turn off the AC mains switch
Next, locate the solar AC mains switch in your switchboard and switch it to “off.” This disconnects your system from the grid.

Step 3: Switch off the DC isolator
The DC isolator is usually next to the inverter. This cuts off power from your panels to the inverter. At this point, your solar system is completely shut down. Wait for approximately three minutes.

Step 4: Reboot in reverse order
To power back up, simply reverse the process: turn the DC isolator back on, then the AC mains switch, and finally, the inverter.
