how-to-clean

Bathroom exhaust fans not only remove odour and stale air from your bathroom but they also remove the dust and dirt that is mixed in the air. Also, the outside air that enters the exhaust duct has the atmospheric dirt in it. In due course of time, the duct gets dirty and affects the efficiency and performance of the fan. Thus, it becomes very necessary to clean the ducts from time to time.

Let us see how to clean bathroom exhaust fan duct in few simple steps. First of all, flip off the circuit breaker and break the electrical circuit. Now remove the cover of the duct and dip it in a bucket containing lukewarm water and mild detergent. To remove the gunk off the fan blades, you can use a vacuum cleaner with nozzle attachment which easily sucks in the dirt from the fan blades. Now wipe the blades with a damp cloth and clean it. A dry cloth can be used to remove the excess water from the blade surface.

Use a stiff brush to remove the dust and dirt from the motor and other attachments. The stiff brush allows removing stubborn dirt from the nook and crannies of the fan. Now suck in the debris with the help of a vacuum cleaner. Leave the duct open for a couple of hours to dry completely and replace the cover when it is completely dry. Now replace the exhaust duct cover and switch on the fan.

Cleaning the ducts from time to time ensures that there is no growth of mold and mildew in the duct. It should always be kept in mind that whenever you clean the exhaust fan and its component, whether partially or completely, dry all the surfaces before switching on the fan again to prevent any short circuiting
