Rising damp is the presence of moisture in the walls of a building as a result of capillary action through the fabric of the wall. The water only stops when gravity hinders the upward movement of the capillary action. Rising damp occurs from the faulty damp proof course or its absence. DPC is a waterproof layer on the wall that repels moisture from the outside wall.

How to Fix Rising Damp Using Underground Ventilation
Rising dampness in buildings with an underground cavity can be solved through adequate under floor ventilation. With the use of circulation pumps, damp air can be removed and replaced with fresh and dry air. Mechanical ventilation may be necessary for buildings with permanent damp soil. Though it may be costly; it prevents termites and white ants from flourishing in the subfloor.
Surface Water Drainage
The provision of adequate moisture drainage to dissipate any moisture that could be penetrative is one of the most cost-effective methods of eliminating dampness in the building. It involves the adequate provision of drainage in and out of the construction so as to reduce the penetration into the subfloor by moisture.
