Although the CMS Solar Inverter is known to have a few problems, once fixed they should perform admirably. However, CMS has been in receivership and therefore, no warranty exists for their products.

Below is a list of common error and fault readings that can be displayed on your CMS 2000 or CMS 15000 Solar Inverter screen. It is important to note that in order to fix your CMS Solar Inverter, a qualified solar electrician is required.

Error and Fault Readings Description
Isolation Fault There is a fault within the solar panels itself or the surge protection has failed
Ground I Fault The leakage current to the ground is too high
Grid Fault The grids data, in voltage and frequency, are above specifications
PV Over Voltage The input voltage from the solar panels are higher than the maximum specified input voltage
Consistent Fault The inverters readings are inconsistent, where the CPU is not functioning
Over Temperature The internal temperature of the inverter is too high and above its maximum temperature specifications
Relay Failure The relays between the inverter and grid are faulty, and will need replacement. However, in some circumstances this fault message will mean the output filter capacitators are collapsing, and will result in replacement
DC INJ High The output DC injection into the AC is too high and above inverter specifications
EEPROM Failure EEPROM inside the inverter has a problem with accessing data
SCI Failure There is a problem with the communication between internal mechanisms, specifically the MCU mechanisms is abnormal
High DC Bus The DC Bus voltage inside the inverter is too high and has exceeded the inverters maximum specifications
Low DC Bus The DC Bus voltage inside the inverter is too low and has fallen below the inverters minimum specifications
Ref 2.5V Fault The 2.5V reference voltage inside the inverter is abnormal
DC Sensory Fault The DC output sensor is abnormal

Trouble Shooting Tips

Please note that these are general tips only and are based on our current and past experience and therefore, not specific to your solar inverter problem. What we usually find is people trying these troubleshooting tips and if these fail, they give us a call and we can perform diagnostic tests.

  1. Have a licensed electrician remove the faulty inverter.
  2. The CMS 2000 or CMS 1500 inverter will need to be sent to CMS Group Pty Ltd Headquarters in Lawson, NSW.
  3. CMS Group Pty Ltd will repair your inverter and send it back to you.
  4. Have a licensed electrician install the newly repaired inverter.

  • 50% of the time it’s a quick easy fix for any solar tech…
  • Error messages and fault codes that are due to an external fault elsewhere in the solar system.
  • The solar system is tricking the inverter into thinking it has that error or fault.
  • External faults are relatively easy to find and repair. Once fault is repaired, the inverter is back online.
  • Other 50% of the time
  • There is a fault, which requires more diagnostic type of testing to locate the fault. Out of these about 1 in 4 can be solved onsite. Things like a dodgy install or water damage somewhere.
  • The rest of the time it’s the inverter that’s the problem. 1 out of every 2 times the inverter can be sent away for repairs or we can organise those repairs under warranty with the manufacturer, and…
  • The rest of the time the inverter was of low quality and either not fixable of not good value to fix. If this is the case we would quote on an inverter with similar specs to replace it with. Getting your system back online fast with high quality parts.
  • In the worst case scenario, rare ground leakage faults are very difficult to find and fix but we have also had experience locating these aswell.
Be careful some dodgy solar guys will just say you need a new inverter without performing any tests just so they can sell you a new inverter that you may not even need!
